Kevin Limon, brewer at Angry Horse Brewing, has recently been awarded the Sir Geoff Palmer Scholarship Award for Brewing, by the Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing and Distilling (MJF) to attend the Master Brewers Association of the Americas, Brewing and Malting Science Course. Kevin, has been brewing at Angry Horse for several years now and is passionate about the craft. He is a cicerone and prior to working at Angry Horse, he graduated from theAssistant Brewer Training Program at Cal Poly Pomona.

The Michael James Jackson Foundation is a grant-making organization that funds scholarship awards to Black, Indigenous, and People of Color within the brewing and distilling trades. The program is open to candidates at the beginning of their careers, as well as those looking to continue their education. The MJF awards present an opportunity for members and patrons of
the brewing and distilling industries to directly fund a more just, equitable, and dynamic future. The Sir Geoff Palmer Scholarship Award for Brewing will fund the tuition and course materials for well-recognized practical courses in brewing science and technology.

Master Brewers Association of the Americas was formed in 1887 with the purpose of promoting, advancing, and improving the professional interest of brew and malt house production and technical personnel. Today, Master Brewers is a dynamic, global community working to advance the brewing, fermentation, and allied industries by: advocating the exchange of knowledge; creating, assembling, interpreting, and disseminating credible and beneficial information; developing world-class education offerings; and providing valuable
personal and professional development opportunities.

The Brewing and Malting Science was designed so students will benefit from the experience and wisdom of more than 20 subject matter experts (SMEs) in the field of brewing and malting. SMEs will focus instruction on the technical side of the brewing and malting process. 

I graduated from the course in 2021. It was was an amazing opportunity to expand my knowledge of brewing and the fundamentals of what’s happening in the brewing process. It was also a great opportunity to learn from and build relationships with other amazing brewers in the industry. I’m so glad I had
the opportunity to attend the course and learn from so many experts.

Kevin will begin the course virtual component of the course in September and the face-to-face session in November in Minneapolis.
